Bike Carb Conversion Advice Please!

Recommended Posts

Lukespeed

I have a 1.9 8v 205, and it idles like s#*t, and fueling is all over the spot, rather than sorting the electrical gremlins I'm considering the bike carb route... and I have a couple of questions..

Are r6 carbs suitable to run a standard tune 1.9?

And is my rev limiter governed by injectors or plugs? Asin will my rev limiter disappear on carbs?

Cheers for the advice!

My advice is don't bother and sort out the standard stuff.

Setup right it drives flawlessly and can give 35mpg on a run.

Ah right, I live near bogg brothers, so my other option was to give it a good service and let them set it up on the rollers, would you say that was a better option?

Cheers for the advice

Better option.

Bike carbs will just give you more of a headache.

Enjoy it in standard trim (he says!)

best option is to grab a Haynes manual and a multimeter, have a damn good rear, then have a fiddle, replace whatever is necessary, clean everything.

Typically nowadays AFM's are too tired to have any fiddling and do need refurbishing, dizzys are tired and need refurbishing as well.

Coolant temp sender failures are rare.

SAD failures are rare though they do gunk up.

Throttle switches are typically very badly set up and not uncommon to fail.

wiring issues can wreak havoc with all of the above.

also dirty injectors.

If it runs like crap now then wait till you see it on bike carbs...be a whole lot worse! Set it up right and keep fine tuning it. Mine is pretty much starting and running just fine after setting it up properly and, over time, getting it to run just fine.

R6 carbs will be fine, I'm sure they are 44mm?

They will obviously need re-jetting and setting up by a professional.

The revs are limited through the injection system so by binning it you will have no rev limiter, you will need an aftermarket one, I use an Omex which is easy to use and set up.

They could be 41mm actually you'd need to check
