Lsd And Steering

Recommended Posts

jonb_5

I am hoping to fit an LSD over the winter before next year's hill climb season starts. I have been told a gripper plate diff is probably the way to go??

I have also been told that due to having a diff, stiff suspension and slick tyres it could be very tricky to steer coming out of corners so have been recommended to fit a corsa b steering rack.

I wondered what opinions you guys had on this or whether there is a better option?

Many Thanks

Jon

I've got a Tranx (which is really good) but if I was buying now I'd go for a 3J.

Mine's a tarmac rally car so on FIA moulded slicks and I wouldn't want to drive it too far without the PAS - you can but it's heavy to the point it wears you out so the time suffers.

PAS is a must, you can concentrate on driving rather than holding onto the wheel, you will be much faster.

I prefer my gripper to my tran-x

Depends on hopw strong your arms are, I'd use Power steering my self and I do run the std set up without any issues, Never liked the Corsa one as it's too close to your knee .

Tran X are old hat now, When I sold mine I gained consistant 1/2 second with my 3J on a 40 second timed run

My 3j is not 'that' tight, but by no means is it easy to drive with PAS. the car was driven for 6k without saxo E - PAS - it is night and day difference. But still not easy!

0.5s in 40s ?! That's an impressive gain. Was the diff the only change to the car spec ?

Yes it was the only thing done then, The main reason to replace the Tran X was the support or lack of it which from what I hear was a good idea

Thanks for the advice.

I have had a look on the 3J website and it seems I have some options I was hoping you could help with. I have to chose Ramps? 30/90, 40/90, 45/45 or 50/90.

I literally have no idea what this is?

Thanks

Jon
