Problems With 106 Wiper Motor Swap

Recommended Posts

Castorkid

Dear forum,

Decided to upgrade my 205 wiper motor to a 106 one (Valeo 53544202) today. After researching the job I thought it would be a straight swap but I have encountered two problems which I hope you can help with:

1. The splined and threaded spindle coming out of the motor are a larger diameter than the 205 one I have. Would swapping the white cog and spindle over from the 205 motor be ok?

2. When the 106 motor is connected up, I only get one speed (the slower speed), despite rotating the wiper stalk. It can be made to go both speeds by wiring it directly to 12V. The 205 one works fine as normal.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

Are you sure its a 106 motor you've got?

I'm running a 106 motor on mine (removed from a late 106 in scrappy) and it was a straight swap - just bolt motor to the 205 mounting plate, fit the 205 linkage and plug in the wiring plug.

If yours has the wrong sized spindle and doesn't work on high speed then it doesn't sound like the right motor to me.

Thanks for the reply Anthony. The Valeo number (53544202) seems correct though.

I used a 306 motor, as I had one to hand, works fine on all speeds.

spindle was indeed larger, as was the ball joint so I ground the ball off and welded on the 205 one.

no issues with the wiring though had to chop the 306 plug off as it was a totally different type.
