205 V6 - Redline Revs On Startup

Recommended Posts

GazMav

Hi All,

I've just managed to get my V6 D8 conversion to fire up but it red lines straight away as if I'm sat on the throttle. The throttle cable is disconnected and the throttle is closed.

No O2 sensor connected up but not sure that would cause it.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to blow up the engine or annoy my neighbours any more.

Thanks,

Gaz

Have you had the inlet manifold apart? It could be a loose/missing O ring or something letting air in. Or the pipes for the idle control valve. Air has to be getting in past the throttle somewhere.

Yep spot on, I had left a pipe off from under the throttle body - idle control valve, so it was if the throttle was open, runs sweet now if a little loud!.

Thanks,

My 406 Coupe is nice and quiet, the silencers might be slightly bigger though ;)

It's a great sound from these. I used to have a C5 with the later V6 engine that was running a Sebring back box and a giant K&N cone that came off a WRC car. The sound from that would regularly leave bystanders looking around to see where the noise was coming from when they could hear a sports car but all they could see was a Citroen C5 that couldn't possibly be the source...

They do sound nice,

I left the lambda sensor off so is slightly quieter now. Using a jetex mid box and the standard 406 coupe rear box.

Sounds amazing when I give it some revs.

Agreed, I put an exhaust and induction on my V6 could years ago. Probably the best sounding car I have owned. Would be amazing in a 205!

How does leaving the Lambda sensor off have anything to do with noise!! It needs to be reconnect to run properly surely?

With the sensor off the car there is a big hole in the downpipe, that's what makes the noise.
