306 Rallye/gti6 Callipers(?)

Recommended Posts

Robbiedundy

Hi, I bought a 306 rallye as a donor car for my 205, took the engine, brakes etc. I assumed that the brakes (front and rear) on them were identical to the GTi6 and I can just put them straight on my 205, is that the case or..?

Here's a picture of them, I couldn't find a brand stamped on them but there are some numbers.

One of the callipers is also seized, how do I go about un-seizing it? ???? I've been told to buy a recon one to replace it but I'd like to take it apart to see how it works etc, never really worked with brakes apart from changing complete callipers/discs etc.

Thanks.

Mechanically a 306 Rallye is identical to a GTi-6 including the brakes.

What bit is seized - the piston or the slider(s)?

Is it just me or is one front caliper 266mm and the other for a 283mm setup....

Good spot, hard to tell if its the photo or if they are different, but from the carriers it does look like the left hand one is a lot larger.

The piston is seized. I'm pretty sure they're the same size and it's just the photo but I'll measure them when I get home in the morning.

Cheers

get a wire brush or a bit of electrolysis on them, they should be lucas stamped into the carriers and a 57 between the fins on the body.

they look good from here apart from condition, and given you actually removed them from a Rallye they should be right.

the rears will have a 32mm piston and could be bendix or bosch brand, they are virtually identical though so it matters not what they're marked as.

If the piston is seized there are a few options. If you have compressed air try that first in the fluid port sometimes it will push the piston out. Otherwise a grease nipple fitted to the port and pump grease on with a grease gun to push it out hydraulically.

I believe this is the safer option if its available, due to the grease not compressing like air would, once the piston starts moving with air they can go with a bang!

You definitely need to keep fingers out of the way with the air line. But it's worked for me lots of times and is far quicker and less messy than the grease method.

A footpump works if that's all you have to hand.

Yeah both the front ones have 57 stamped on them between the fins on the body, will give the carriers a scrape when I get home.

Thanks for the help guys, will give both your methods a shot see what works, have a compressor and think dads got spare grease nipples for the teleporter as well.

:)
