Classic Insurance For Engine Converted 205?

Recommended Posts

Daviewonder

Who are you guys using to insure your 205 that have had engine conversions? I usually use Footman James but they won't insure it any more due to the modifications.

Cheers, Dave :)

I'm going with greenlight when my renewal is up. I had a good quote from them a while ago for my 2.0 turbo 309,my current company price matched them so being lazy I stayed with them but wish I went with greenlight after aviva screwed me over after having it written off.

Brentacre in Cardif... All mods, agreed value, and fully comp.

And the nutters will even let my bird drive it (if she ever wanted to!)

Also worth trying Need 2 Insure for a quote. They insure loads of heavily modified / converted Fords (as well as other marques too) for very reasonable prices, some of which have full Cosworth engine / drivetrain transplants into cars that didn't leave the factory that way, so they know their way around those sort of conversions :)

Another greenlight supporter here with a 2.0 turbo 205 cti been with them 3 years i think now and very happy so far.

Engine mods are free upto 180 bhp.

Ive swapped cars on my policy 3 times this year and moved 3 times since i got the car, everytime it was free of charge to update the policy - none of that £25-£50 nonscence that everyone else hits you with.

All done over the phone too

I'll second green light I had a fantastic price for mine and the list of mods just went on and they had to talk with the underwriter due to power being over 200bhp

I wouldn't judge an insurance company on price, or what they're willing to insure. Unfortuneately it's only after a claim and how much they cough up that they can be judged..... And by that time it's too late for us to know what's good or bad.

Just had a look on the Greenlight website as I'm looking around for a better deal for my e30, and it says "All BMW models are excluded due to claims statistics"

Also, has anyone had a multi-car policy for 2 modified cars? Would want my e30 and 405 to be insured, both will have engine conversions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been ringing round most nights after work (well the ones that are still open then) and I have decided to go with Carole Nash.
