Blowing On Exhaust Manifold

Recommended Posts

mhyphenl

Had the exhaust manifold re-faced a while ago but on doing the head gasket I've removed it and noticed that it's been blowing on 1 and 4. Looks like the guy who re faced it used a sanding belt and put a slight curve at each end :( Also the exhaust valves on 1 and 4 are white, would this be due to the blowing and would this likely be causing the engine light to come on!? Can it be refaced again or is it scrap, I've put a wanted ad up for an other manifold!

Will it seal if you smear the gaskets with exhaust paste?

Cant think of another solution tbh

Take it to the proper machinist shop and let them resurface manifold to head contact area .. yes it's kinda common for them to blow through on the corners of the manifold ends left-right .

Exhaust paste or high temp. sealant will seal that but not for very long , it'll burn out eventually and start leaking again so proper resurfacing is the only permanent solution (theres plenty of material so resurfacing wont be a problem ..)

If that's an Motronic car with lambda sensor then yes - it'll draw (under vaccum) false air inside the exhaust through that gaps on the manifold and fool the lambda sensor making it measuring leaner because of that leak on the exhaust system upstream the lambda sensor , if it was down the sensor it wouldn't matter but this , you must fix/seal up .
