New Car - Lotus Elise

Recommended Posts

You may have read a previous post of mine regarding my 130i being stolen, well I've finally replaced it.

List of wants remained the same as when I purchased the BM - quick, practical 5 door.

I've somehow ended up with this!

Funnily enough i sat in one yesterday, have you bought a big shoe horn to be able to slide in to it?

Did the previous owner warn you where not to place youe weight when getting in/out?

Looks nice.

Who really needs five doors? That's one nice motor, considering one of these myself.

Getting in and out of a Series 2 Elise is a doddle compared to the Series 1! Nice choice Rich, I've always preferred the look of the earlier long tail roofs, though be sure to pick up a water proof kit for the roof to prevent the front top corner window drip. I used the Autoglym Fabric Hood stuff and it worked a treat.

Very nice :) As said the S2's are easy to live with on a daily basis with no real worries over damage, etc, and also very happy on track as well when required :) I only lightly scraped the front splitter on the clam on mine once but that was due to a rather steep multi-storey car park exit :(

I spent nearly 3 very happy years in a late shape Exige S from mid '07 to '10 and it was a fantastic car.

(Obligatory shot with the 205 in the background ;) )

That is nice..... also notice you have a Mk1 Focus RS, which I also really like. (I sat in number 335 at the weekend)

I would love an Exige, next time maybe!

I got a ride out in an Exige V 6 at the weekend, that certainly did not hang about!

Re getting in and out, sort of got the knack already, I'm on 5'8" which helps. Getting out with the roof on is less impressive though!

I am going to treat the roof as suggested. It has also just had a brand new later version front seal fitted with the drip cups so that should help too

Is it the one you went to view and the bloke wouldn't entertain an offer?

Very nice. I've always fancied an Elise but at 6ft 2 with back issues I couldn't even get into my mates s1.

Sadly (or happily depending on how you look at it) I am one of those people that does need 5 doors or at least 4 seats now

No this is a different car, I looked at this one weeks ago at a local Lotus dealer, it was wildly overpriced compared to similar cars on the market at other garages but I was just being nosey. I had a couple of conversations with them since then and they came back with a much lower price. After viewing a couple of other cars and getting bored of travelling round I decided to contact him and offer an ever lower price, we ended up meeting in the middle.

Still a little more than I would like to have paid but it's local, well known and the car comes with a 6 month warranty. They know the car too having sold it 7 years ago and maintaining it since. It had the new seal fitted too which would have cost me a couple of hundred quid if I had got someone to do it.

It's serviced up to date including the belt too.

Silly boy here didn't check the tyre dates and they are older than I would like so it'll be getting a new set of boots at some point

If the occasion arises that you have to parallell park in the street try to get a space at the end of the street to ensure no one shunts your car. The cars profile is so low that other drivers cannot see it when reversing out, even a minor "harmless" shunt can compromise the structure resulting in spidering and cracks over time. The cost of a new clam shell, painting etc is eye watering.

Funnily enough I watched a video from inside an Elise where a taxi reversed into it and drove off. Seeing that has made me wary!
