Xm Alternator Differences

Recommended Posts

lemmingzappa

Recently purchased this 90Amp Valeo Alternator (A13VI263) on eBay to replace my existing XM one on my turbo conversion, it looks different to my other two!

GTi on the left = 4 tooth pulley

XM in the middle = 5 tooth pulley

New XM on the right = 6 tooth pulley

The mountings looks different too, can I get this to fit or is it completely wrong? The one in the middle came off the Auto XM 2.0 Turbo engine I'm using.

one on the right is for the large cast iron phase2 engine mounting bracket, wont fit your earlier type bracket, same as a gti6.

your gti one will fit if you use a narrower belt, you may be able to swap the pulley if you wanted to.

Damn!!

Is it better to use the GTi one rather than the old XM one then?

XM one will likely be a more powerful unit... not that there's much in the way of electrical load in a 205!

There is nothing wrong with that XM alternator, it worked perfectly when it was in the XM. Admittedly it doesn't look as nice as the rest of the engine does now

Was only replacing so it looked fresh tbh. Happy to use the old one!
