Can Anyone Identify This?

Recommended Posts

Found this in my headlamp loom, it plugs into the fuse box but wire has been cut in engine bay and I can't find where it goes, numbers on the wire don't help either - if I know what the black thing is I can work out where it goes! Thanks

Isnt this the feed for the K light on the instrument panel?

No, that comes from the ECU and goes to the brown multiplug under the dash. I don't think it goes through the fusebox at all.

It could an injection coding resistor, I had one in my mp3.1 loom that looked like that.

It's from the fuse box, it is crimped into a thick white wire which goes to a spare connector by the NS turret which I have been told is for the ABS (which I don't have)

I think the numbers are 32M on one side coming out of the connector and 32B on the other side of the diode - there are a lot of 32 numbers with a letter after on the wiring diagrams - I think 32 is just a positive feed and there are quite a few different 32 wires supplying various components- I have a spare red wire from the coolant coolant level sensor but the numbers don't match??

Injection coding resistors would be on the engine loom I think, they are on the ML4.1 Mi16 loom anyway. Plus it's definitely a diode (black with a white stripe at one end?).

Don't suppose the red wire with the diode leads to the unused red plug behind the passenger headlamp does it?

The red wire with the diode doesn't lead anywhere at the moment and that's the problem, the previous owner cut it - I have a spare red wire coming from the coolant level sensor but I don't think the two are supposed to be connected as they have totally different numbers on.

History is the wiring for the dim/dip resistor burnt out back to the fuse box, previous owner cut the wires which I have now stripped out of the loom as I will not be using the dim/dip resistor but he also cut the wire with the diode on and I can't work out why??

What is the unused plug behind the passenger headlamp? That's where the burnt wiring originated

Cars with air conditioning, and some diesel models had two radiator fans controlled by a box of relays. The relays were behind the headlight and powered by that red plug. A normal GTI without aircon only has one fan, so the red plug is just dangling there unused.
