Removing Fuel Pipe

Recommended Posts

notamondayfan

Right, I've done all the hard work, disconected the long metal fuel pipes, all loose, but can't seem to get them past the bulk head / steering rack / subframe. I've jacked the car as high as I can, but can't get them out.

Is there a special nack to get them out without bending them? I want to remove them without bending, so I can copy the shape with the new pipe.

Also, I've left the rubber pipe on the front ends, I think I should be able to remove the pipe with them connected, but maybe I'm wrong?

Cheers,
Dean

It's certainly possible, I have done it, but i reckon you need to remove the rubber pipes first.

I just got them nearly there, bent them slightly to just ease them out. If you make the new a copy of the oke, you should only need a slight bend to get it aligned once fitted.

I got the return pipe out eventually without bending too much, I think the feed pipe will probably break, the lines are so badly corroded I've already snapped it just from unclipping it, definitely no way they'll bend anyway!

Up the bulkhead is only a couple of simple bends. It's the curves along the floorpan that are more complicated and important to get right.

I might just feel the pipe past the bulk head, then bend the pipe once under the car, that way I can connect the rubber pipes first, which will save a lot of trouble.

I wouldn't as I think trying to do the underneath bends under the car will have them end up looking like a dogs dinner, but hey up to you!

If you want the advice of someone that's done it, bend as much as you can off the car, use cable ties and cable tie the new one to your old one used as a pattern and work your way along. Don't try and use a pipe bender unless you have one with the correct dies to properly support the pipe, otherwise you'll end up flattening it on the bends.

I did exactly as Tom describes and even with the hinderance of being a complete novice, they came out pretty well and fitted back into the clips with ease.
