Goodwood Revival Hints And Tips?

Recommended Posts

allye

Just after some general advise really, I know a couple on here are goodwood regulars.

I see Sunday is 50% more expensive, must be worth paying the extra and doing it properly? I've been to FOS couple times and enjoyed that, lots of standing around though, is there anywhere at the circuit you can pitch up a couple chairs and enjoy the racing without killing your back?

Dressing up must be essential I'd assume? Time to crack out the tweed blazer!

Thanks, Ali

I've been a few times, every year since 2000!

For me it is a better event than the FOS except you cannot get into the main paddock unless you are a competitor/ mechanic. However the lesser paddocks are accessible and the machinery is still awesome.

Sunday has the amazing TT race which is normally a billion pound grid, it's what we all want to see. Where do you see 5 or 6 Ferrari 250GTOs racing, drifting into and out of bends together occasionally touching along with lightweight E types, shelby Cobras, Bizzarinis etc.

You also get part 2 of 2 of the decent races from the day before, The St Mary's trophy is brilliant.

I arrive at 7am, traffic is bad from 8 onwards, once I got there at 6.30 - good for pictures! I can't remember the car park we park in but if you're coming from Petworth then it's that one! Basically you then get to walk through the pre '66 car park which is awesome, in fact I've often thought of just doing that for a day!

I don't wear fancy dress, sorry!

Have a good nose around and then basically walk the track taking in the racing. St Mary's at the back of the track is good viewing and much less crowded and away from the hospitality twats. You can do chairs but again like many events the closest spots are gone early, so back of track at St Mary's near the giant screen. There are screens dotted around, take an fm radio for commentary.

The holding areas are great for photography and hearing things start up.

If you like vintage aviation there's a lot of that to see plus the stalls selling to the very wealthy!

It will be crowded and food is expensive. If you want less crowds the members meeting is where it is at and like the revival was 10 years ago.

However It's the best historic classic event in the world.

.....and I probably won't go as we have a baby due that weekend!

Perfect cheers for that, I thought you'd reply! I think if I'm going to do it then do it properly and go Sunday, take food with me though probably.

I've been before and it is simply awesome. The pre-66 car park is worth the drive alone!

Apart from all the amazing historics, the Earls Court Motor Show mock up showing cars of the future (from a '66 perspective) is incredible, not sure if that is there every year though.

I don't dress up but never get tired of seeing ladies in pencil skirts, back-seamed stockings and heels...
