Confused Over What Gti I Have?

Recommended Posts

theoilburner

I have a H reg Miami Blue 1.6 Gti. I thought it was a phase 2 as it has black dash, smoked rear lamps, clear front repeaters and half leather seats. I need a dash loom but all the P2 ones I've seen have the round connectors for the doors whereas on mine the wires just go straight through, I also have the older style hammer in door pins????

I really need to order this loom but not sure what phase to order for?

Can anyone help??

Early Phase 2's also have the straight through door looms and roll pins on the door hinges.

(indeed, so do some not so early Phase 2's - my '92/J is like that!)

I don't think 1.6's ever had half leather seats though even as an option, so they've likely been retrofitted (common as the later cloth seats are fragile compared to the leathers and earlier cloth/tweed seats)

Thanks, probably have been retrofitted as it also has the 1.9 engine and wheels.

So will a P1.5 loom fit???

Still need a Phase 2 loom, just an earlier one.

Phase 1.5 looms won't quite be right in subtle way sadly - wrong central locking wiring for example - although depending on what you can find there's not that much difference between them so not too difficult to address if you're comfortable with vehicle wiring.

I've fitted Ph2 dash/headlamp looms to my Ph1.5 so technically the reverse should be possible. Its not a straight fit though, i had to make modify some parts of the loom when it came to connecting up the electric windows/central locking and maybe a few other minor differences since those systems are completely different between phases. Although being a 1.6 you shouldn't have electric windows so it might be easier.

It wasn't too difficult a job but i do have quite a bit of 205 wiring experience.

Thanks - so I need an early P2 loom without the door connectors, or can I use any P2 loom and just cut the connectors off and wire straight through into the doors??

Sorry about all the questions, my loom burnt out and am desperate to get car back on the road.
