Help Again Pls, Mechanic In South East?

Recommended Posts

Linz2882

Hello, I'm back and needing help again!

I've posted before about the problems I've had with my RG's carb. I got a rebuild kit from Gower and Lee and it has now been taken apart and rebuilt twice. It's still running like a pile of c**p. My mechanic has suggested a Webber conversion (?) but I think the next step is to find a specialist to take a look at it, which is easier said than done. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the south east who really knows their way around 205s? They seem to be getting hard to find! I have heard there is someone in the Northants area, but would ideally like a personal recommendation.

It's all lined up to get a new roof but I want to make sure it will actually run properly before spending so much money.

My little pug thanks you for your help :-)

They aren't very complicated things, the Solex carb on a RG, so any competent mechanic should be able to sort it, without resorting to a Weber conversion!

Although that would be fun...

Unless the carb is knackered somehow, warped base etc, in which case you could try another;

with a new service kit.

My mechanic knows 205s like no-one else, but he is on the south coast and working on mine next week, so hands off!

Are you sure it is the carb? Plugs, distributor, timing (ignition and cam) all been checked?

Failing that, there will be someone on here happy to give it a look, I'm sure.

Thanks for the reply Antony!

I think we were thinking that the Weber conversion might solve the problem and also be fun :-) I haven't been able to find one sadly :-(

Everything has been checked, and the carb looks fine. I am wondering if there is more going on than meets the eye, so I'd really like someone thoroughly versed in the character of 205s to have a look so I know for sure. My mechanic is competent but no 205 expert, he is also a good friend so I don't like to ask too much of him.
