Caliper Bore Size And Brand

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i'm restoarion my 1.6 GTI and i saw that the caliper that i got currently are uprated Lucas (girling) calipers (the rears are stock drum brakes).

i did a little research and found that the calipers are from 306 XSI 2.0 (54mm piston size calipers) and i have also 266mm discs. i want to replace my master cylinder since i think it's not working properly ( i saw on the booster signs of brake fluid leak in the past - the paint under the master was flaky). i think that i have the stock 205 20.4mm master and the correct one for 306 XSI is 22.2mm.

1. do i have to replace the master to the higher size or i can buy the 20.4mm size. i want to keep the car looks original and i heard that i the brake fluid reservior of 205 will not fit the 22.2mm master. is it true?

2. which brand is better: TRW(LUCAS) , BENDIX,BOSCH, (other brands...?) ?

thanks

Ido

Buy a four port 306 22.2 master cylinder and use a 205 reservoir. It's a good solution. It looks completely stock to the untrained eye.

I'll check for you. Either way I have one in my 205.

I have a non abs 406 master cylinder on mine, the original reservoir fits and it looks virtually standard.
