Power Steering Gets Stiff And Pump Whines When Hot

Hi all, troubled by another issue..

My set-up is a 205 Si rack (2.7 lock to lock) and a pump off a 2: xu engine and the pump has been relocated to where the Ac used to be, was running A local motor parts shop (repco) power steering oil which is dextron ii.

After the car has been driven for about half an hour, I loose the power assistance and the wheel gets hard to turn when stationary. When I apply any turning force to turn the wheel it's stiff but not noisy. if i rev it up the pump will whine its head off, the whine is like a supercharger, no easier to turn. Comes good again once the car has sat overnight.

Anyone come across something like this before?

My power steering is always heavy (for PAS anyway)and has whined the whole time I've had the car. I just thought it was normal! Guess I might need a new pump...
