Stuck Tu Water Pump

Attempting to change the cambelt and water pump on my UK Rallye (1360 iron block 75hp) and the water pump is stuck fast.

 

Have tried heat, Plusgas, wacking it with a lump of wood and a hammer, 2 pry bars in tandem from opposite sides and all I've managed to accomplish is shatter the mounting flange.

 

Anyone have any suggestions?

I guessed this was the iron block before I opened the post!

 

The aluminium water pump and iron block corrode together and pretty much jam themselves together, as you've found out. When I did mine, I had the engine out and on a stand, so was probably easier for me, but I used a combination of heat (Heated the remains of the pump up) and a hammer. It all came out eventually. Just be careful not to damage the machined section of block that the water pump sits in, as it'll never seal properly again!

As above, they get stuck in really well due to the nature of them not to leak, The one I had was thankfully out of the car and too a right beating to get the thing out so in the car see if you can drop the engine for better access

Cheers gents - it was indeed a right bugger to get out. Took circa 8 hours over 2 days to get it out. I basically hammered, pried, heated, chiselled, boiled and generally abused it until it came off. About the most success I had was after the whole mounting flange had broken off, repeatedly poor boiling water over it, then pry off with 2 pry bars from opposing sides.
