205 V6 Conversion Engine Placement

Recommended Posts

A quick question to those that have been involved in a v6 conversion - what kind of clearance have you ended up with between the sump/downpipes/gearbox and the ground?

I've just started the conversion and I knew space would be a little tight, but the ground clearance seems very low. No real way around it I guess?

no real way around it other than stiffer springs indeed, there's no room to raise the engine much as the timing belt covers start hitting stuff like the bonnet at the leading edge,

Not allot, get a decent D/P made and get ready for replacement sumps

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it's as high as I can get it without fouling on stuff up the top. From above, it looks like most of the other conversions I've seen (from photos), so I guess that suggests it's a problem for all that have done the conversion.

Any particular springs you might recommend?

Will you be at pugfest at the weekend? If so come and have a look at mine and you will get some idea of how low the sump is. I expect Paul will be there in his red one too, I seem to remember he has a higher ride height than I do so it might be interesting to look at them both.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated :) I didn't realise pugfest was on this weekend - are tickets available at the gate?

Yep they are indeed, just turn up. I think they are £11 on the gate, but don't quote me on that! It's not too far for you either so no excuse not to come :P

I did eventually make it to pugfest yesterday, but only saw your 309 Ali (you weren't about though), couldn't see any v6 205's?

I've fabricated the top mount and chopped and reinforced the subframe a fair bit, got the engine sitting about as good as I'll get it I think. Ground clearance looks very similar to Ali's 309.

It is what it is, I'll just have to remember there's a lump hanging out underneath :)

I was there in my 205 V6 and I left the bonnet up most of the day too! I was parked near the entrance to the Tavern food place.

I had a good gander under goliaths bonnet yesterday, certainly is tight under there! I spotted the wheels from a mile away and made a beeline. :-)
