Reccomended People For Headwork

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

Im looking for someone reputable and affordable if they exist together. For an XU10J4R head to be skimmed, larger valves, uprated valve springs and a general good sort out. Any reccomendations and experiences please.

Obviously dont use this to air any grievances with companies but feel free to message me if you feel its required as a valid warning.

I had north east engines in Darlington do head work for me before but it was always just standard spec valves, skimming and leak test etc but they always did great work on all mine and all my former employers jobs.

It's on Valley Street opposite unipart, might be worth a phonecall as it's quite local

doesnt need bigger valves, they're plenty big enough!

what cams are you going for? that will dictate which springs to go for.

I'm having a pair of gti6 cams profiled by Petert. Waiting on a message back to decide on profile but will be the most aggressive possible as its never going to see the road. If its just a case of springs and a general skim and clean etc I can probably get it done local enough. Still very much open to advice on what I should and shouldn't be doing from others experiences regarding the engine work.

It will be on bodies with omex / emerald management and standard wasted spark coil, uprated fuel pump (using external swirl port with walbro pump) and probably get injectors once I know more on engine final spec.

in that case a set of standad J4RS springs and retainers will suffice, but the spring seats and vavle guide will need machining.

With that in mind would i be better getting a gti6 head?

quite likely though the j4r does flow well and does actually have a larger inlet valve, the exhaust is marginally smaller.

depends what you can get hold of, youre probably better with a gti6 and pocketed pistons so you can get them timed up safely

Just been looking about. Seems heads are around the 150 mark so not much difference to me building my current head with gti6 springs. Think i might keep it all j4r externally to make things easier in case it ever drops a valve etc.
