Xs Brakes Using 1.6 Gti Parts

Recommended Posts

Silky

I've had a good search through here and found some good information, but I have a question regarding bolts which I couldn't find an answer for.

The setup I am going for on my XS is as follows

1.6 GTI Hubs

1.6 GTI Discs

1.6 GTI Pads

1.6 GTI Pad Carrier

XS Caliper

1.6 GTI Driveshafts (same as XS I believe)

What I want to know is.....

Which caliper bolts do I need to use for the 1.6 Pad Carrier? (part no. 4405 17)?

Can I use the existing bolt on the XS pad carrier?

Can I change the 5 sided bolts on them for standard 6 sided?

They aren't some sort of weird thread pattern?

Thanks, Michael

they are the same bolts, you can get a 5sided socket, I have seen 6 sided bolts on more recent calipers.

12x1.5 thread pitch iirc.

would be easier to just bolt a 1.6 caliper straight on.

1.6 shafts wont fit as its not a be box.

a simpler route to vented discs is keep the base model hubs and use 1.9 discs.

AH!

Right, so the GTI shafts won't fit the XS box, but the XS shafts will fit the GTI hubs?

Did any of the 1.6 GTI calipers come with the 5 sided bolt?

As I bought some 1.6 calipers off here and they have got them on

most I recall seeing had the 5sided bolt, if you have the calipers just fit them as they are, no need to swap the carrier.

ma shafts fit base model and 1.6 hubs, theres no benefit to fitting 1.6 hubs over base model.

No benefit I get you, but I wanted to put a set of new wheel bearings up front, so bought a set of hubs so I could get them done without taking the car apart

Just go for base model hubs with 1.9 disks and then use 1.6 carriers for the calipers, job done.

I was going to use my existing base model hubs, but seeing as I was refreshing everything else, I thought best to get wheel bearings done in a spare set of hubs.

Can build most of it up off the car, then switch it over much quicker/easier

Fair enough, in which case i'd look for another set of base model hubs as you have far more options with disk/caliper setups with that offset.
