Missing/hesitation Going Round Fast Bends

Recommended Posts

Ramigojag

Leaving work the other day coming down quite a sharp left hand bend slip road the car started to judder and hesitate, almost like a misfire. When back on the straight it drives fine no obvious loss in power, further up the road on another left hand slip road the same problem, the problems only occur when I'm pushing it hard through the corner if I take it steady it's fine.

Going around right hand bends hard is fine.

I'm a bit lost apart from thinking it could be a weak fuel pump struggling to pick up fuel, but it had half a tank on the gauge which granted may not be accurate, but from a full tank just a couple of days before I had done about 180 miles so should be plenty of fuel left in there.

It had a new fuel filter only in Feb and has done approx. 1000 since so should be no issue there.

Any ideas what else could be a cause?

Callum

not likely I think, fuel surge is probable cause given the conditions it happens under.

it seems to vary massively how much a 205 is afflicted, my own one could lap llandow with a flickering low fuel light whilst others were having problems with half a tank.

Does anyone know the flow rate of a standard 1.6 1990 pump?

Agree with the above, to be honest i would say don't waste your money on another pump as it won't make much difference. Seems to affect most fast Peugeots of the time as my old 405 Mi16 used to do it under about 1/2 a tank of fuel when cornering hard.

I just find it strange I've owned this car for almost 3 years (only done a few thousand miles), but I've never seen it before.

Fitting an early (Black body type) pump in a car that originally had a white Body type pump causes this symptom.

The pumps are different depths, IIRC There's a plastic swirl pot that is fixed inside the tank that had the Black body pumps from factory.

This was missing on my J plate and I remember having the same issue, which was fixed by fitting my original White plastic body pump back in.

OR

Have you kinked the fuel pipe under the fuel filter when you tightened the nut on top?
