Advice On Wheel Size

Recommended Posts

MKrisz92

Hey there!

I would love to hear your opinion on this topic, since I can't decide. I've got a 75hp 1.4 cabriolet (injection, from Germany if that matters), with the roland garros 13 inch wheels. The tyres are brand new, just about a month old hankook ones.
Now my problem is, that when I drive a bit over the speed limit the tyres are... just not enough.
So it is time to change, now to the topic: what size wheels should I go for? It would be mainly for road use, maybe sometimes like once/twice a year on track. I have a set of 14 steels, but I've heard many good things about the c5 light steelies.
Could they fit without rubbing? My beam is good, but it is still a base model rg shell. Which would be a better choice? I dont want to lose much on acceleration or handling, thats why I love this 1.4 tu :)

Regards,
Chris

14" wheels is what you need. 15" Peugeot ones will catch on a base model shell, and I think the C5 wheels are the same as the 1.9 GTI wheel in offset.

I would go for a set of 306 DTurbo Harrier wheels on a Garros or a set of 1.6 GTI wheels. That way you can lower it (which is what you really ought to do if you want better handling on a non-GTI) and they will not catch on 185/60/14 tyres.

Also find a GTI rear anti roll bar as it is an easy swap, very cheap and will make a massive difference to the handling.

To give you an idea:

And this is a CTI though so has arches:

Is this the general opinion?

(which is what you really ought to do if you want better handling on a non-GTI)

I was told that I could use 15 inch alloys if my rear beam is in a good condition, or with /45 tyres. But since this is just a stock road car... I dont know :D
