Gtx, Worth Saving?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've got the chance to snag a GTX locally, the car is maybe a couple of days away from being broken for bits but I offered the seller some dollar for the whole car with the interior being stripped out but still present.

Are these worth saving? I know base models aren't really worth the effort but I read that these are quite rare and it seems a pity that it's going to be pulled apart. What should I be paying for it? It's obviously not going to be a looker I shouldn't think.

I should add, I'd only be buying it to put an MOT on it and flip it on again.

Before we could even begin to guess worth you'd need to give more details than that.

As a very rough idea though, if you're buying it to MOT and punt back on though, have a look to see what GTX and other middling spec models are selling for on eBay and the like with the mileage/condition of that one, deduct the cost of MOT and the cost of rectifying the known issues, and allow an additional sum for contingency to cover inevitable unforeseen costs. The figure you're left with is the top figure you can offer if you want to break even on the deal.

I haven't managed to find any GTXs up for sale recently, I'm not amazingly up on this particular model, it's done 95,000 miles and seemed to drive fine 30 miles to the MOT test station I use, I know it'll need a new exhaust section, brakes at least re-serviced, interior fitted back in (only drivers door and dash are situated) but the body is very good from what I can see so far.

Well, I ended up buying the car and it seems to drive quite nicely apart from maybe a little pull to the left (although that could be tyres) from what I can see, it needs an new exhaust section as it was very, very loud. The car had everything inside removed aside from the driver's seat and dash so I'll have to factor that in, although I think I can sort that myself.
