Offside Driveshaft Poping Out

Recommended Posts

sasenz205

Hi there i have an issue with the offside driveshaft poping out.... I have recently changed the clutch on my 1.9 and decided to change the boots on the offside driveshaft as they were in a poor state so i knocked out the inner needles bearing of the offside/short driveshaft fitted the new universal style boots put back the bearing, and packed them with hi temp red grease and tied the boots all properly and they are not leaking, fitted the driveshaft into the gearbox and in my opinion it goes in a bit to easy with no click or , so anyway i fitted everything else and driving it now on full lock its poping out off the gearbox and leaking gearbox fluid...

Did you put the bolts back in for the intermediate bearing/mount

The "hockey stick" bolts that hold the drive shaft into the intermediate bearing can bend outward with repeated use and tightening, eventually opening up enough to allow the shaft to pull out.

I have 309 wishbones fitted, and its the other shorter driveshaft thats poping out, note i am running 205gti driveshafts, what is the solution, here in new zealand is hard to find 309 gti driveshafts.. any other solution as its only happening after i changed the clutch, i had been running the 309 gti wishbones prior to that for 2 years with no probems, and i drive it like i stole it:).... daily

The engine/gearbox is perhaps pushed over further towards the cambelt end now that you've re-fitted the box? That's the only thing I can think that's changed.

Loosen the box mount off and see if the engine/box moves back across at all.

Success, the problem was: there was no spring in the inner joint of the driveshaft to push the shaft inside towards the gearbox, now i found a different 205 driveshaft from my local peugeot mechanic with a spring inside and swapped it and now everything is fine with no leaks. Its strange how nobody mentions this factory fitted spring anywhere in the forums.
