Decent Road Tyres?

Recommended Posts

u47sb2

What do you favour currently for 14 inch road tyres? In the past I've run Toyo T1-R (good), Toyo CF1 (not so good), Kumho (bad, but came with wheels I bought so used them anyway). Will be 95% road use, and maybe the odd road rally/targa rally.

The search function yields little!

Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance for me. "A" wet grip rating.

I went for the Goodyear efficient grips on my A4 and found they killed what little steering feeling it had. sidewall is very soft, it may be different on a smaller wheel perhaps but the sport contacts it had on before were much nicer.

They are very quiet though to be fair.

I have toyos and are excellent as long as it stays dry.

I still rate the Yoko Parada's; cheap, long lasting, good grip :)

Long lasting? I got about 4,000 miles out of my last set!

Mine have been indestructable! So much so after having my wheels refurbed i got a new set of tyres fitted and reused the parada's on my 306!!

What's the general view on Hankook? I've seen the V12 Evo recommended as a decent all-round tyre.

never tried a decent tyre then

as mentioned, not available in 14"

ive used the falken on a 306 in the same size and been impressed, better outright grip than a michelin energy, though the Michelins last blooooody ages and are very predictable.

Ive got Dunlop SP Fast response (or something along those lines and I highly rate them plenty of grip, but still nice and quiet. Not like the Nangkang's I had before

I've gone and ordered Falken ZE914s at £36each.

The old Kumhos on the car are properly knackered - it's surprising just how much doing a test on concrete takes out of tyres!

I am running Uniroyal Rainsport 3 in the Panda and I am very impressed. They are cheap as chips, too.

I've been running Falken Ze912/4's for the last few years on my 306 & really can't fault them, to the extent that I'll get a set in 14" when I next need some tyres for any of my 205's & got a pair for upfront on my C4 VTS hdi.

Got Yoko AD08r's which i bought in a winter sale to replace Toyo T1R's that nearly sent me backwards in the wet.

The Yoko's are amazing, and a big upgrade to the car.

They're doing just great thanks. Did a Targa rally yesterday and thought they gave plenty grip on concrete and not too bad on firm gravel either.

In 'Bmw sizes' there is so much choice (16,17,18"). I would always say something like Michelin PS2's or SS's. Or premium contis are a good choice as an alternative. In 14s it is hard work! Ad08s is probably what I would go with, just don't use them the really, really wet stuff. I use ad08/r888 on a 195 50 15 speedline and would recommend either. I know this is a bit useless since you have already bought some tyres, but it may help some bigger tyre users in the future...

I thought you had 888's on it? For grip purposes are they not the best thing to try and put the power down?
