Sunroof Removal

Recommended Posts

Telf

Hi all,

I've now had a water leak into both front foot wells for about 2 years - I've had the screen seal re seated and sealed in, spent hours trying to figure what the cause is-I'm now thinking it must be either a leak from the sunroof or a corroded drain pipe.

I've done a search regarding removing the trim(as I don't want to wreck it!) as far as I can tell I need to remove a screw above the map light - which reveals some more screws which should allow me to remove the front sunroof trim.

This in turn allows access to remove screws holding the side trim in place.

Has anybody done this job recently that could offer some advice?

Thanks

Paul

I did this a couple of weeks ago to clean it out you are right remove the front section as you described the remove the screw at the front of the side rails then push the trim backwards it locates in a slot

Thanks for the confirmation, I'm thinking that one of the metal drain pipes might be causing my leak - has any body seen this before?

The metal drain pipes are a likely cause. Mine are very badly corroded and I will be replacing them when I finally come to remove my sunroof.

From what I've heard on here, people have either used copper or stainless pipe to replace it with and a bit of Tigerseal for good measure.

On a side note, the aerial could be leaking too.

I thought maybe the aerial but then again I'd expect the roof liner to be wet and its bone dry-- the footwells however are soaked after only light rain- hence no carpets for me!

The good thing is taking the carpets out allowed me to spot a potential rot disaster that I've managed o get repaired.

If you don't have a wet roof liner then it's unlikely the sunroof drains are the cause (although probably still worth sorting).

Puddles in the foot wells are more likely to be caused by shrunken door seals, poorly fitted or broken scuttle panel, windscreen seal, heater matrix or possibly the rear window seals.

Whilst you've got the carpet out, put some talc down and shower the car with a hose to see if that gives any clues.
