309 Wishbones

Recommended Posts

koti

I've just got a pair of 309 wishbones to put on the 205, they look right and they seem to be the right length I think (36 cm end to end). However, they seem to be pretty much the same size as my 205 ones- I expected them to be about 10mm longer. Am I somehow being an idiot?!

I done the exact same exercise as you and just checked a pic and there was a noticeable difference between my 205 and 309 ones.

Just checked my pic again, try putting a long bolt or long allen key through the two middle bushes on your pic ( your 309 and 205) at the same time, and see what it does to the lengths

Usually the 205 have the cross ribs on the wishbone face and the 309 do not. (As per your picture)

Are both balljoint pins pointing in the same orientation? Eg if one is pointing towards the bushes and the other away it could make the dimension harder to judge.

Probably better to flip them the other way up and measure from the centre of the balljoint "cap" to the front bush bore centres.

I'll nip back to the workshop tomorrow and measure the back faces on them- I did get this picture with a drill bit through the front bushes:

It just seems strange that whenever I've seen pictures of them before there has always been a clear visible difference, even in a crappy picture. Very odd.

Mmm

Have a look at my pic on my project in the engine work forum, it's posted on 19/1/15.

Looks to be a visible difference to me. Fit them and see what your tracking looks like.

Do you need to change the drive shafts to 309 aswell?

Lots of people run with 205 shafts with no issues, although some have had problems. Personally, they are longer for a reason so i always run 309 shafts.

don't forget that 309 strut tops are also 10mm further out per side, so the shafts don't actually need to be that much longer on a 205, especially when lowered and not running much droop.
