How To Fit Cable Rubber Bung Retainer ?

Recommended Posts

mmatthej1

Just wonder if anyone knows how to insert the retainer through the drive at the gearbox, please?

I pulled it out, in the first place, to fit a replacement cable but I can't really see how to get it back - it will go in part-way but not enough that it shows on the other side, so I can't pull it from there, darn it !

Ideas, please.

Probably need to shove the cable in a bit more

There's a groove on the end of the cable that the runnerving pin sits in, so as stated u might need to push it in more, making sure u have the inner cable in the speedo drive correctly

Not wishing to teach you to suck eggs, there is a step on the rubber prong and so it only fits one way into the plastic housing.

Thanks all and Tom might have a point; I'll re-examine the rubber prong and try to recognise any particular 'step'.

Hum, took rubber bung out, noticed 'indentation' on thicker section and marked 'big'end accordingly.... BUT still could not get bung to enter the metal housing for any decent length, despite ensuring it had enough lubrication.

Not entirely happy with this but have secured end of bung to cable with ties so, if it comes out, at least it shouldn't fall off!

Despite this, good news is that speedo is working again, without any sign of leak around gland, and cable resists testing to pull it out from top, so something must be near-enough right!
