I don't have their aluminium jack but I would definitely consider SGS as above based on some of their other products that I do have.

Not the clarke one... The pump piston jammed in on mine, I think it's bent because no amount of lube will fix it

Other than that it was a really nice thing..

Two friends of mine use SGS jacks, one is a 1.5ton aluminium jack whilst the other is a 3ton heavy duty job.

I've used both at length and SGS will definitely be at the top of my list when it comes time to replace my cheap, dilapidated Draper one.

I use SGS equipment and it's been nothing but perfect so far. Very high quality!

SGS also sell a standard low entry jack which is rated to 2 tonnes. It's only 1.5kg heavier than the 1.25 Ali jack but is £70 cheaper!

I know it's not what you're after, it weighs 26kg! But I spent a little while looking at jacks recently and ended up getting this one:

http://www.costco.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/cos_8,cos_8.5,cos_8.5.10/900930

Only used it once but seems quality for the money.

I've an Arcan which I bought from Costco. It's slightly different than the one, but mine has failed after a couple of years of constant use.

One of the pistons has worn at the top from the handle rolling on the top of it from use. This caused the piston to come out at an angle and get stuck. Annoyingly it appears tricky to track down spare parts in the UK. If you find anywhere that does I'd be interested, as it's just a very heavy paperweight at the moment!

That's a shame, I hope I have better luck! Not sure about spare parts, I suppose the postage is a nightmare from the US.

Just to update this, I ended up needing a jack there and then whilst doing a big job recently, so it came down to what I could get hold of in a shop locally. So in typical shoot myself in the foot fashion SGS were out as i couldn't afford to wait a couple of days even though their kit looked the best priced. The Machine Mart offerings seemed expensive and not the best of reports, so I went to Costco as there is a store locally and bought the jack John B linked to above.

All in all I'm pleased with it, maybe not ultimately as light as some of the all alloy ones, but certainly light enough to easily take to a trackday in the back on my Shogun without popping a bollock lifting it in and out. Cost in the store was £84.
