Gti6 Conversion Thermostat Housing?

Recommended Posts

oldkiteman

Do i really need a new thermostat housing? The housing on the engine(VTS) is plastic with a metal clip and I have the hose that plugs into it.

Is it just that a BBM hose kit is designed to fit the modified T/Stat housing?

Any idea how much a hose kit and housing would be.rob

Most of these questions are answered if you do a search.

In summary though, no you don't need the BakerBM thermostat housing adapter and you can use the standard 306 plastic one. However, personally I would (and did) use the BakerBM part as the 306 one's are notoriously bad for breaking or leaking.

If you want to use the BakerBM hose kit then you needs the adapter too.

A 406 TD top hose fits the engine spot on, being longer as well means you can fit a larger Air filter on the TB and or lower the rad with ease, the hose is only £25.00 ish new as well, or if your keeping the heat exchanger then the std hose is fine too, just need to connect the other end of the exchanger into the water system,

Spoox do a insert that connects to any pipe

If you buy the adapter, and have your original 205 pipes, and the double pipe serving the 306 matrix, and a 22mm plumbers T piece, you don''t need a silicon pipe kit.

You'll need to build the 205 bulkhead matrix pipe diameters up slightly, i used self imalgamating tape.

Go use the BakerBM kit and live happily ever after.

I ran a GTi6 as a daily driver for around 6 years and I had three (3!) cracked plastic housings, all bought brand-new.
