Just making a start on my conversion and not sure which g/box to use.I have got the 5 speed VTS box with a pull clutch and the 1.9 BE3 Box.

I was thinking to use the VTS box,convert to push clutch and fit BE3 Diff assembly.Would this work and what clutch will fit?Rob

Yes that converted VTS box will work (you'll also need to swap the selector arm over) and is a good choice for a GTi-6 engine.

 

The 1.9 gearbox is a bit long really, even with the more torquey nature of the '6 engine.

 

Use a 1.9 Mi16 clutch to match a GTi-6 flywheel and push-type clutch mechanism.

So a clutch for a 405 M16?

And do you mean i have to swap the bent selector arm with ball on the end?Rob

Yes, but make sure that it's a Phase 1 (1.9 litre) 405 Mi16 - the later 2.0 Mi16 used a pull-type clutch.

 

You're safer asking for a BX 16v clutch at a motor factors as they were only ever 1.9 litre - but make sure that you're not mistakenly supplied a 1.9 8v (BX GTi) clutch as that's too small at only 200mm vs 215mm for the Mi16 one.
