Standard Jack Mounting?

Recommended Posts

scbond

So when I got my 205 there was no jack. I managed to get a decent one a while back but without a brace (not needed and probably won't use it but will still get one). Only problem I have is it seems loose when I fit it and will just rattle about.

It's the standard engine bay location with the raised stud thing that the bolt goes through. Seen some pics where there's a raised metal bracket next to the stud but I don't have that...should I? On ServiceBox there's a shim listed but never seen it or where it goes but does that sit between the jack and the stud or inner wing to hold it still?

Sorry I don't know the answer, but I'm keen to know, do the white clips on the side panel have anything to do with it?

Shim is just a foam pad for putting on the wheel housing to protect paint I guess

Jack is screwed into that raised bit on the housing, M6 bolt, long shank on it and not sold separate anymore

White clips on the inner wing are for the brace

Have the bolt. Basically, fully screwed in (which took a lot of lubricant and effort) it almost seems like the bolt is too long and the jack has a cm or two of movement. Not much but would possibly scratch paint like you said.

It almost seems like something should go between the raised stud and the jack to push it up against the plastic top of the bolt and the rubber lip thing (which I do have) if that makes any sense?

I got a NOS jack, screws down nicely and tight, no movement

Sorry for asking but what's NOS?

I'm guessing the issue is the missing shim then? Would it be best to come up with something like a foam pad that fits over the stud and cushions the jack? That's all I can think of for now.

Hmmm...was there different bolt lengths? I know there were two jack variants for the engine bay fitment, are the dimensionally the same?

I'll have a good look at it and try and get a pic of it fitted too

Anyone know what the difference between the two fixing screws is? Are they different lengths by any chance? Are they interchangeable?
