1.9 Vs 1.6 Driveshafts

Hi guys,

I've just bought a brake upgrade kit for my Euro Rallye with 1.6 front setup, so I need to replace the hubs and I was wondering what the best route to take is. My options are to buy 1.9 front hubs and new shafts or base model front hubs with current shafts.

Are 1.9 shafts stronger than 1.6 ones and is it really worth the upgrade? I would probably buy new shafts with the base model hubs as well, but the question remains wheter one options is significantly better than the other. I'm also wondering whether availability of parts for the future will be better in base model or 1.9 form.

Thanks,

Andrei

1.9 has larger wheel bearings and a full 6 ball cv joint, anything lower spec has a smaller wheel bearing and a non removable tripod type outer joint.

the larger stuff lasts longer and withstands extreme loads better, plus the joints can be replaced separately.

Well I've found a set of 1.9 hubs with new bearings so I'll also put some new shafts on order and enjoy my new brakes.

Would anyone know if my brake hoses will fit the new calipers? Going from the 1.6 setup to 206 GTI180.
