Free Chateau Or Villa Holiday In Exchange For Lift Back To Uk

Recommended Posts

lagonda

FREE holiday in our French chateau / villa in exchange for a lift back to UK late May/early June
My Riley is (finally) at the end of its restoration, and we need to return to the UK (Dorset) to drive it back here. Ideally you need to be one or two people with a car suitable for bringing me, Joan, and Rex back. Rex is a well behaved border collie who is used to car (and ferry) travel with no problems. We are used to travelling with little luggage, but will need to bring a few tools and, being an RMB, a spare halfshaft!

In return, you get 4 or 5 nights in either the chateau, or if you want complete privacy, the nearby villa. Links to the chateau and villa adverts here:

You might be able to get a discounted ferry booking off the back of your "reservation" here. You will have use of all facilities advertised...we have a large heated indoor pool, full size tennis court, 54 acres of woodland and meadow, river with Category 1 trout fishing. Lovely quiet rural setting, but just 10 minutes walk to local shops and 2 good bar-restaurants. We are close to Poitiers (Futuroscope) and Parthenay.

Your stay will need to be arranged so as for us to return 22nd May at earliest and early June at latest. You are welcome to stay for longer than 4 or 5 days, and we are happy to offer a substantially discounted rate for extra days. 5 days free if you drop us at our destination in Dorset (near Sherborne), or 4 days free if too far out of your way and we need to be collected from some convenient meeting point.

Also regarding Rex, he usually travels on the back seat; we will be bringing a seat cover, and he will happily sit with us. If your car has a capacious boot and window, he is equally happy travelling there provided there's space.

You can email me, or perhaps easier to respond via the messaging service of either of those adverts. If you would prefer to talk, let me have a landline number and I'll call you. A 5 night booking for the villa in May would normally cost €1050, so this really is a great opportunity. The exchange rate is the best it's been for 6+ years, €1.40 to the £1, so a perfect time for visiting France as well.

Incidentally...for other holidays, we offer discounted rates for club members, and higher discounts for those arriving in old cars...such as (but not restricted to) Lagondas, Rileys and 205 Gti/CTis!

Amazing opportunity for someone!

My in-laws live near Ruffec and it's all a lovely area.

Just a shame we're in Portugal or else I would have been sticking my hand up.

And they're not due to come over here until November.

Really tempted to give you a call about staying at your gaff some time.

Good luck with this request.

To anyone - take this man up on his offer!!!

No takers so far?

If you'd like to stay longer, extra nights will be charged at only €50 a night, below a third of the normal price.

I'd love to help out, and this is exactly the sort of adventure I would embark on. However, I don't have a car big enough to transport you all back unfortunately!

Hi,

Not too bothered if it's a bit of a squeeze, and bear in mind most of our travelling is in a CTi...so we're used to not having loads of luggage.

We'd be happy enough on the back seat of a 205 GTi, but not familiar enough with the GTi to know whether the boot space would be sufficient for 4 people's stuff.

Will have to advertise this elsewhere soon as we need to firm up on dates...so if you're mulling it over, let me know....happy to answer any questions.

Well I've looked at dates etc and am very tempted to take you up on this offer! There's no reason I can't insure the 405 for a couple for weeks and bring that down. I'll have to do a bit more thinking but it is looking like a possibility :) What is the latest date you can be back in the UK? We would most likely have to come out on the 24th or 25th.

Although I am sure you can travel light enough for us all to squeeze into a 205, I don't think my other half would be able to, especially not for a 5 day stay!

Hi,

Sounds good! Latest date for our journey back to the UK would be early June...say 4th June, but later may be possible. Your arrival 24th/25th May would be fine, the restorer of my Riley is on holiday until 26th May, so our return after that date would be preferable anyway.

Surprised at lack of response from others, perhaps concern over our border collie? He really is no trouble, in fact you would hardly know he's in the car...he just lies down most of the time, occasionally sitting up to look out of a window. He is never car sick and certainly won't damage anything; he's not into chewing bits of car!
