I found the problem on the dyno, simply it's just not a big enough filter area. I used a large throwaway element filter with adaptor a back to AN6 from John Sleath Race Cars, John builds 900hp V8's so these filters are plenty good for our cars.

Ah I see that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I guess a bigger filter would be the way forward then. What is a standard fuel filter rated to bhp/micron size? Just so I can find something suitable on ebay
