I bought a cheap sealey gas no gas welder the other week for 180, the gas conversion kit (comes set up for flux cored) a little bottle of gas and some welding wire weren't much more so well under 300 and it seems decent, I have used it with the flux core just to see what it's like as I'm quite experienced with mig welding but never used gasless plus it was outside and breezy and I was impressed.

The welder itself is pretty simple but if its just hobby stuff like mine is then it'll do the job

I have a clarke 100e which does me nicely for upto about 3-4mm thick metal. Can't remember what I paid for it now but i seem to think it was about £200 brand new, with a small gas bottle and some wire.

I've had my Cebora mig for years now, restored mk1/2 fiestas, subarus and peugeots. Never failed after hours of welding, bought second hand also marketed as snap on welders. If your doing much welding try and find a Hobbyweld stockist for gas, I use hobbyweld 5 mix.

Check out rtech welders they're excellent for the money. I think a 150 will fall in to your price range. If not a murex 140/141 are decent and under £300.

I currently have a sip 150 turbo, which has helped me with mk1 fiestas, mk1 golfs and 205s, but it's got on my nerves too many times, fluctuating power and major feed issues, so something between 150 and 180, with gas and wheels. I've seen swp, a make I'm not aware of.

Sip's smaller stuff is definitely worth avoiding, the feed issues are well known however I used a large sip profession mig welder for 2years daily with no issues just regular nozzle, wire and gas changes as you'd expect

I got a swp 210! Seems canny. Got a good price on it. Haven't fired it up just yet!

Sorry for hijacking your post but you can write what I know about welders on the back of a stamp.

I have a small amount of welding to do on my cti and as I was once trained how to weld I thought I would do it myself. So would this one be ok for a small amount of basic welding.

Thanks as usual.

The gasless welders in my experience are awful. Get one that uses gas is my advice!

If you get the mighty mig 150 instead of the 100 then if you don't like the gasless it can run on gas too
