Meat Doria Icv?

Recommended Posts

Ams

Hello, I ordered an OE Magneti Marelli from carparts4less but instead I received a curiously named "Meat & Doria" ICV. The package has the Magneti Marelli part no.436730100 so I was a little confused. I called CP4less and the rep didn't really know much apart from stating I have a 12 month warranty or I could just return it if I'm unhappy.

Instead I called ECP and asked their rep about it and he was a little more informed, he confirmed that ECP/CP4Less no longer supply the OE ICV. He added that the Meat & Doria ICV is the replacement for the Magneti and is either equivalent or better due to the part number and price staying the same? Anyway I googled the company and haven't found any feedback from user experiences of their products, only sales links pop up. Does anyone know anything more? The main differences between the OE and M&D ICV is the housing is plastic rather than metal thus a lot lighter, also the probe itself is painted black and has a slight taper on the shaft.

I just have no idea if the stepper quality is durable as non OE are notorious for being defective in a relatively short time? Anyone used one before?

It's quite common these days that original equipment suppliers like Marelli source parts for their aftermarket operations from other suppliers.

They often sell off the original tooling as soon as the contract with the vehicle manufacturer ends.

Nothing wrong with M&D by the way. They've got a long running history producing parts for carburetors and injection systems.

Thanks for the info mate, it tallies with what ECP said. Ive fitted it and so far it's perfect, my previous OE ICV caused the revs to hang during gear shift. I replaced it with a used good one for a short time but thought I'm best just buying new. Will see how I get on with it.

Update: around 5 months later the Meat & Doria ICV has suddenly failed. The car had sat for 2 weeks and I decided to fire it up today, it burbled into life and I left it to idle for around 2 minutes, then the revs slowly dropped until the engine stalled. Further attempts to start the engine led to immediate stalling. I removed and cleaned the M&D ICV, reinstalled it with no improvement. The stepper motor refuses to adjust the piston appropriately for idle. Fortunately I have a spare albeit dim-witted old Magneti Marelli ICV which upon installing allowed the car to fire up, idle and drive. However this is less than ideal since my spare Magneti ICV likes to hang revs.

I have called CP4Less and they're allowing me to return the part for refund or replacement. I requested a Magneti if they have one in stock, I will hear back later today. Oh well.

Indeed - ECP are getting a bit naughty picturing and explicitly mentioning one brand and supplying another "equivalent" recently from what I've seen...

CP4Less accepted that the part was faulty and refunded the £62 last week. I have little choice but to buy another M&D ICV since there are no more Magnetti ICVs available. <_<

Mister Auto do a VDO one (at least that's what's advertised) though it is about £100, but still cheaper than the £130 odd that Pug charges (though not sure on the make of the genuine ones). I had an M&D one and it was rubbish from the off.

Another update:

The car has been parked up for the majority of winter thus far. My old Magneti Marelli ICV has been functioning well enough to start the car. I decided to look around for a new ICV and noticed that the options available had altered somewhat with CP4less and ECP. I ordered the same part number '436730100', after discount it cost £61. I fortunately ended up received a proper Magneti Marelli item:

So it appears they are now supplying Magneti's again.

Edit: I've just checked both ECP and CP4Less and noticed that Part No. 436730100 is now showing as "out of stock". I may have just got lucky.
