Deox-C Safe For Brake Calipers?

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

After using Deox-C on some suspension components with excellent results, I was wondering if this stuff is safe to use on calipers (stripped down of course)?

Obviously, the rear calipers will have to split down between the body and pad holder as the metals are different. But, I was more concerned about using a bare steel caliper in Deox-C and the effect it may have on the machined surfaces e.g. piston area etc.

I believe you will need to do them with any ports plugged and the pistons still in place, I have seen some wheel bearings someone did and they were ruined.

I did some GTI6 calipers in DeOxC, worked well, I left the pistons and rubbers in place and the old rubber hoses still attached. I found it best to wire brush all loose crap off first, then soak for a day, wire brush again, repeat until clean.

Once clean I then stripped the pistons and cleaned up and rubber greased the seals before painting and rebuilding.

What did you do with the holes for the sliders on the carriers? Blocked them up? The 'bosses' for slider pin rubber seals are zinc plated and this stuff

will take the coating off!

You could try the gel instead. I actually prefer it because you can be selective with where it goes.
