Fuel Presure Gauge

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make/sell a gauge that can be fitted to the fuel rail of an XU9JA , maybe even left permanently on the car to monitor fuel pressure .I have seen cars fitted with a small diameter ( approx 25mm ) gauge that looked liquid filled and was a permanent fixture .

Ideally it would fit direct to the std fuel rail and the hose from the fuel filter would screw into it - no extra pipework .

Could one be made by the hydraulic hose specialists like Pirtek .Would it affect the engine running .

those 'power' boost valves can be fitted with a gauge .

I'd be interested in something like this too as i've got an annoying misfire and this would be just the thing to keep an eye on the fuel pressure.

Just buy a 0-50 psi gauge, tee piece, two short hoses and plumb it between the filter and the fuel rail. It's not something you'd leave there. It's only for fault finding.

So left permanently would affect performance/response?

Where would be the best place to find the correct gauge or have something made up , I imagine you could not use any old gauge as the fuel might damage the diaphragm on a cheap or unsuitable one .

Try British flowplant or similar suppliers of high pressure equipment, the liquid inside the gauge is usually glycerin, it is there to damp the needle.

As said above gauges can and do fail if left connected permanently. As part if my job I have a lot if kit with hydraulic systems, good practise is to put an isolation valve before a gauge and you only open the valve when checking or fault finding, then leave it closed so the gauge does not get constantly fatigue loaded. I have seen many failed gauges and often they piss hydraulic oil out when they fail.

In this situation it would be petrol pissing out all over the engine, NOT GOOD!

Aside from that the standard Bosch fuel regulator is a reliable piece of equipment so why would you need to keep checking fuel pressure anyway?
