Push Or Pull

Recommended Posts

I'm currently fitting a 8v turbo engine into my 205, I will be using a vts box and wondered if there is any benefit to be had from keeping the pull clutch set up over the push time.

Do yourself a big favour and convert it to 1.9L Mi16. The pull type clutch is dreadful.

Some say a pull clutch is stronger?

But indeed push is easier. (have the omp push clutch on the turbo)

I you have the 2.0 8v turbo, you might consider a different gearbox, as it is not a rev happy engine in standard form.

I'd keep the 'M' series box on there, stronger and you can run the std clutch, yes the linkage and shafts need sorting but nothing too difficult,

Clutch wise the push's is better

Pull clutch cover has a higher clamping force for what it's worth, so potentially better for a high-torque application.

I'm not sure of the units, but from Valeo a S16/GTi-6/TD pull clutch has a clamp force of 5250, genuine 1.9 Mi16 push clutch is 4900 and some of the other 215mm push clutches (which might be marketed as being compatible with 1.9 Mi16) are as low as 4200 from memory.

Seems i'm the only one who likes the pull clutch, the only downside i know is that its slightly harder to get the box on but I've used them on mi16 and gti6 conversions to good effect.

After having a 306 for a decade (and then a xsara), I suppose its just what I'd gotten used to.

Afraid not Sam I've got the pull type set up on my vts box and I like it :).

The brackets modified to accommodate the be1 clutch cable so it's a straight forward cable change.

The operation of it looks a little unnatural but I think it has a nice feel to the clutch over the push type be3.

It's got nothing to do with the installation. They just feel so dead after a while. I removed it from my daughter's 306, along with the spring on the pedal box. Never looked back.

Did you remove just the spring/damper on its own Peter? That royally f**ks up the clutch pedal feel/action when it starts to fail.

First thing to do on any 306 that has it fitted is to rip it off and throw it into the nearest bin frankly.
