Replacing Track Rods, Special Tool?

Recommended Posts

ALEX

Is there a special tool for tightening track rods to the rack? (Not track rod ends)

I used mole grips to remove the old ones set for the bin, but fitting new ones would get damaged using grips.

I have new locking washers to go back on with the new rods.

Stilsons.

I've a specific track rod tool which I use on Renaults. Very handy - just a shame it's too narrow for my 205/306's.

You may be able to get them in a larger version.

I don't think from memory that the 205 ones have any flats to get hold of. Stilsons have always worked for me with no ill effects.

Thought there might be a special rubber clamp or something. Always curious on what torque setting to use and how I'd achieve that setting with mole grip or Stilsons even.

Edit.

Yeah no flats on 205 Track rods.

Another question.

Looks like the for PAS rack the rubber cover is part of the track rod.

Is this a separate item that can be removed and all track rods are the same (non PAS - PAS)?

Or do I need A PAS Track rod?

Hi sorry for the thread hijack, but where did you get the new locking washers from?

I need to fit a lock-stop to my xsara vts rack so need to get the drivers side track rod off and back on again.

Thanks.

Dealer.

Had to buy a bag of them though.

(for some reason I can't quote with a reply? must be something to do with the strict filters settings I have at work)
