Shunt Box Fuses Blowing

Recommended Posts

damo

hi,

I seem to be getting the shunt box fuse (15) blowing, on my 3rd on!!!

Is the fuse as the front near the slam panel 15? the back 2 or 25's. just wondering why its blowing all the time.

No idea on what this 15 amp fuse is for. Its a different shuntbox compared to my other 205. This has 2 25 amp fuses and where you normally get two blank metal bits at the front (battery connector end) there is one fuse slot. I wonder if this should be a 25 amp one too possibly as this is where metal blanks are on others ?

Being a later model it may well have some other accessories. Follow the wires.

Yes you could obviously put a 25A fuse in and see if that doesn't blow, but you then risk damage to the loom etc if there is an underlying fault after all. I'd probably put a 20A in first as a test to see if it still blew, then a 25A - but don't just assume it's resolved it it doesn't blow straight away.

Have you got access to a dc clamp/tong tester?

You could switch everything off, replace the fuse and measure the current the particular circuit is drawing by clamping it on the wire(s) going away from it. If nothing is drawn, start switching things on one at a time until you see something odd.
