Engine Runnung Issues - Rolling Road Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

jonb_5

Morning,

I have a rolling road booked tomorrow and wanted to make sure I havnt missed anything, any help is appreciated.

it is a 1.6 GTi engine with twin 40's fitted and a facet fuel pump.

The pump was fitted on the inner wing but I have moved it right next to the tank to ensure there are no fueling issues.

I have also checked spark to all plugs and this is fine.

The car will start and idle very rough, if you apply any throttle it just cuts out and after say 20 seconds will cut out anyway and doesnt want to start again, until left for a while.

I have found blowing on thr breathrr of thr fuel tank, creating pressure helps with starting but I have also had the pump out and checked and works fine.

My thoughts are that I have fuel and spark and it is simply down to setup of carbs, which can be sorted tomorrow. I just don't want to get there and have missed something simple that I could fix today to make tomorrow run more smoothly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jon

Its hard to really post anything helpful in situations like this when you are not stood next to the car watching what happens.

However have a look on this link, it gives a useful check list of things to look over before a rolling road visit.

Thanks for the advice.

Turns out there were a couple of issues, mainly having no fuel pressure regulator I was putting about 7 psi to the carbs which was way too high. The guy had a spare filter king which dropped it to 3psi and it ran loads better.

One of the main jets was also slightly unscrewed which took an age to find as it was causing one of the plugs to stop firing under load.

Got there in the end thought, went from 44bhp at the wheels to 93bhp.

Can not recommend Graham at Rawspeed, Plymouth enough.
