Can New Keys Be Programmed To Operate Remote?

Recommended Posts

My son has a rather bulky, seperate remote 'plipper' but would like an integral key/remote - I suppose that such an item can be bought from the likes of Timpsons but can the remote section be 'taught' the right code to open the car, I wonder?

If it's the original 205 IR remote locking setup, then no, it's not programmable in the conventional sense of the word.

The fob and receiver are hard-coded to one another on the PCB itself.

You can use a Phase 2 405 fob and receiver in a 205 to give you an integrated key/fob that will fit and work the OE setup which is what I've done (below).

I'm pretty sure that I know how to adapt the early 106/306/AX/ZX OE IR setup as well to work on a 205, but I've yet to try it. Equally, I think I understand how to "re-code" the 205/309/405 setup to pair a mis-matched fob and receiver, but I need to have chance to do a couple and confirm the theory.

Alternatively, it would be easy to add something aftermarket should you wish to a 205/309 that originally had RCL. Slightly harder on non-RCL models as you need to add a slave motor to the drivers door, but still hardly rocket-science.

Many thanks for prompt response; yes, my son's car is an original 205 in terms of equipment, so suppose he will have to be content with the seperate key-ring transmitter, as supplied!

Interesting that my GTI key is integral tho..............
