Removing Valve Stem Seals

Is there a easy way to remove these as tried with pliers and they just seem to break up.

I'm interested in knowing what to do if they do break up and you have the head on the car?

You can get specific valve stem seal pliers

As above get the proper pliers, you risk damage to the valve guides if you try to pick of the stem seals which can be silly tight
