I'm going to up set a lot of people here but anyway.... These cars aren't fast compared to new motors Christ our run around is over 200bhp anyway this has had me thinking ive been flat out in the old pug today and the speedo at one point was reading 135mph.... The car does 90 in 3rd is the peedo way out??? Our run around would be lucky to see 90 in 3rd.

Yes there are plenty of new cars which are quicker and/or more powerful, most will also be a fair bit heavier. It is normal for speedometers to over read by up to 10% (I think about 5-7% is normal) but it depends if your car is standard. If it has a different gearbox it could alter the reading even more.

It's now back to standard apart frome the k&n style filter, it used to have a turbo diesel lump in it so I guess the box is a td one? How could check?

throw it up in the air and time how long it takes to land.

if that doesnt help try pouring petrol on it and setting fire to it.

ALTERNATIVELY...

do a search on gearbox identification.

Right I've just thrown it in the air.....the problem I have is you didn't state how high I should throw it???

So..... I went for the second option. This ended badly I poured the petrol on to the box and set it on fire but I didn't relise I had managed to get some on my sleeve this resulting in total deserter! I now have burns on my arm and face.... Would you be ever so kind to pm me your full name and address so I can pass the details on to my solicitor to start a law suit?

Much Thanks the bloke that now owns your house.

God, now I'm really confused?!? I managed to open my burnt eye lids for just a minute to do a gearbox search and the first thing that came up was a vauxhall gearbox identification numbers. Is this right? If it is it turns out a have a corsa diesel gearbox on a Peugeot........

Proper madness crazy how this day has turned out.

ideally you need to get the end casing off the diff - find the final drive, at least then you will know roughly what box you have. what rpm is it at 70 or 80 in 5th

A 1.9 box at 3000rpm in 5th gear should be at 70 mph

a 1.6 box at 3500 rpm in 5th gear should be at 70 mph

I'm pretty sure i read that on here somewhere ( Im probably wrong )

I know that wont help you identify your gear box though

Cheers spencer.

Like I say I went for a ride out in it yesterday I did notice that if I threw it in hard in to a bend in the road it would hold back my guess is that there's not enough fuel getting to to the injectors...lazy fuel pump? Knackered fpr?
