2.0 8V Turbo

Recommended Posts

tommy gun

Hi all I'm currently about to fit a 2.0 turbo engine into my 205 and I've seen (through lots of searching) that the gti cam can be fitted for better gains over the standard cam.

The 1.9 seems to be favourite but it has slight over lap, also some recommend the 1.6

I've got both sat on a self some where so wouldn't hurt to fit one or the other.

Engine will be running dta management so it needs mapping anyway.

I will in time just buy a turbo cam when funds allow.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Tom,

Well,...Overlap on turbo motors. Now theres a subject for you to boggle the mind with.

I can only tell it as I find it really. From my personal point of view I've built a few motors now that have had what the theory would say is far to much overlap but honestly,.. I havent really had any disasterous problems with any of them.

Yeh, ok so it might not be the greatest on economy or it might not have the smoothest of power curves, but so what is my opinion. No cam can ever be ideal everywhere.

As an example our turbo 8v project runs a Piper BP270 camshaft in it and it's a great combination. I've run it on the standard Jetronic managment and a Megasquirt and it was fine on both.

The compression ratio is only 8.0:1 just to give it more low end issues to deal with and it's still great.

If it was me I wouldnt be overly concerned with it, it's only a misserable bit of overlap anyway. If it fits just bolt it up and go with it. I dont think it will be terrible at all.

Hope that helps Tom

All the best O.T.
