205 Gti Spare Wheel Cage

Hi folks,

 

Is there more than one type of cage for holding the spare wheel on the 205? Mine won't take a 1.9GTI wheel (with a 185/55 tyre or a 195/50 tyre.) without hitting the boot floor way before it's in the right position.

 

I'm just wondering if there are different types or if the 1.9 wheel was never meant for the cage and I should have some kind of space saver/smaller steel as a spare? the cage is definateley from a GTI although not the original from this car.

 

Anyone know?

1.9 wheel should fit fine, mine came with a full size spare, a chunky 195 if a squeeze but the original 185 is fine, there are two lengths of bolt for the hook, 113 and 131mm.

 

there are two cages, one is only for space savers, not even a base model wheel would fit I doubt!

Thanks Welshpug, sounds like a have the spacesaver cage in that case. At least i'm not going mad.
