[Trackday_Prep] Xl Track Car Build With Itb's Hi Comp And More&#33

This is a fresh thread for my 205

An on going track car build project!

Started life a few years ago as a standard 205 XL, I basically stripped everything off the car, to start fresh with a 3 door non sunroof shell to work from. Hope its an interesting build, photos jump a lot as its been on going for a couple of years.

The first step was building the car up as a nice fast road/ track toy, which I thought would carry me through for a few years...

With Spax RSX coilovers, solid top mounts, various poly bushes and the engine with a pokey claimed 150bhp.

I managed to get some torsion bars through the forum, although I can't remember who from.

New 22 torsion bars and a 23mm arb

I welded in an omp cage which I need to take some pictures of for reference as we made a pretty great job of the strengthening plates and welding in the cage.

A ring trip, and several track days it served me very well!

Unfortunately after a couple of years of abuse the engine began to smoke on overrun, not surprisingly really with unknown mileage and the manor to which it was treated on track!!

I took the engine apart only to find lots of issues, worn and scored bores and worn out pistons. Regardless of that, I landed myself another 205 with a throttle bodied engine, I put it back together and bolted the bodies on for a track day.

After losing 3l of oil while on track it was time to set about building a real engine for the car, in time for a second trip to the ring

I set out to buy a forged engine, second hand ( a regretful decision which saved me absolutely no money!)

I scrapped the block, cams and most components, leaving me with a set of forged wossners in very good condition and a head with good valve seats and a home port job. Nothing ground breaking but you have to bear with me as I was doing it on a tight budget as I was also saving for the Easter Ring Trip!

I set about building the engine, learning a lot along the way.

Jenvey 45/42 ST taper bodies

Newman PH4 cams and 160lb springs

ACL race bearings

Freshly rebored block from the engine I removed the jenveys from.

New rings

Fresh skim

1.57mm hg (head skimmed .2 in total)

Wossner GRP A 0.5mm oversize forged pistons

And all the rest of the bits and bobs you need!

Sandy Brown gave me a great deal of information to help me a long the way, I cant thank him enough for that.

I flipped the bodies over, giving less chance of fuel pooling in the manifold

Sandy set everything up at SRD ltd for mapping, and thankfully I had a pretty trouble free day bar a couple of wiring niggles and I needed a new FPR

Run on the Rolling Road

I'm not in possession of any print outs etc, the only info i have is that it pulls about 160bhp at the wheels at 7k rpm, which is absolutely bang on!

So at the moment I have been doing a little prep for the ring, and some tarting,

New coolant hoses (made my own matrix pipework).

ITG JC50 65mm internal height filter

ITG (reverie?) Carbon back plate 60mm makes up a 35mm gap from the end of the 90mm trumpets

A Satch shift for the MA box which kindly Colin supplied a couple of extra bits and a new bell crank when I was down in Cornwall.

Other than that, some grinding and repairing the arches from having the C5 wheels rubbing constantly with 195 50 tyres, a 1000 mile round trip rubbing would be a disaster!!!

Aww thanks dude. Appreciated

Really nice car Josh, thanks for posting :-)

Thanks man.

Will have to get stuck into a full spec and more build photos for anyone interested in putting one together. Above pics are just a snippet of the work that has went into it. Lots of little custom touches hidden away underneath.

Ground up built, all gti running gear, bigger gti rad and custom brackets. The cage etc

I have the 266mm discs, id like to put gti6 ones on eventually or skip them and save for 4pots and better rear brakes. Other than that nothing too exciting for a while, paint the inside and lose the front carpet and a centre silencer for castle combe! Edited by A1AXX
