Mi16 Running On 8V Management

Recommended Posts

m_john_m

So as some of you know I picked up a 205 with an MI16 engine in last week.

When I uploaded pics people said that it was still running on old management.

I emailed spoox out of curiosity on what parts I would.

They listed the parts I needed as follows:

Mi16 engine harness

Mi16ecu

Mi16 air flow meter

Mi16 injectors

Link loom between the car & the engine harness

Potentially a flywheel and crank sensor

Cam adaptor

Rotor arm

Dizzy Cap

Ignition leads

Coilpack

Do I need all of the above or could I just get the 405 loom and ecu?

Can anyone give me a ball park figure on hahap this would cost?

Am not in a rush to get it sorted as I have just bought a cage and some compomotive wheels for it! Bit skint lol

dizzy cap best off buying a new one even tho they are quite expensive ( ive got a used one ) got some leads i think and a coil

Or just buy an emerald ECU, loom, gti-6 inlet, coil pack and some mapping.

You'll have less issues, ie. No more mechanical distribution, it will remove AFM issues and give more power.

Mi16 and 1.9 8v yellow injectors are identical which is the sort of thing an 'expert' should know.

It almost certainly will have an MI16 flywheel already although you must check this because if it doesn't the gearbox has to come off.

The cam adaptor could be the metal plate with the torx bolt in for the rotor arm, As above the injectors are the same, 2 types of yellow part numbers but no difference, crank sensors can be bought new (Same as any XU engine)

Link looms are what I call a bodge, the loom should be modified to suit, the 405 ones when done fit very well and the same old thing, Less joins the better

what did he price that up at, not cheap at a guess

John, why not make a loom yourself? I had no prior wiring knowledge and with the help of these forums created one myself and I had basic wiring/soldering skills and a bit of patience. My wiring has never caused any issues till date. Save yourself the £500 odd if you do it properly yourself and learn in the process.

so would it be about ?500 plus labour??

i asked spoox how much it would be but they havent got back to me.

when i do it i would rather buy a 405 loom. just wondering what else i would need. the parts on spoox arent cheap! will have to keep my eye out for 405 loom and parts. will probably try to convert it in the summer.

Shuey, i would try but i am not very mechanically minded. i would love to give it a go but i would probably mess it up!

depends specifically which 8v stuff you have, its probably jetronic though so not much other than the Injectors and throttle switch is compatible.

I wouldnt buy anything from Spoox myself, so expensive!!

just get a wanted thread going.

I have all the motronic kit from my mi spare after going to throttle bodies. So 3 row bx16v engine loom, ecu, afm, idle valve, dizzy cap & rotor arm, knock sensor. Will be putting it up for sale shortly, but let me know if interested.

It's off the car and ready to go, just haven't had chance to think about a price, get photos and put it up for sale. Haven't seen the MI stuff come up for sale for a while so not even sure what its worth!

Will try get details up this eve, but sounds like Dan has you covered anyway.

One last question sorry if it is stupid buttt.......

If I decide to run it on carbs would I need the management off an MI16? I.e ecu etc?

Out of curiosity I have read this thread on carb conversion:

http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles/e1-carbs1.html

It sais in this thread that you are to use the 1.9 dizzy and adaptor?

I'd rather have it up on carbs as it would probably be cheaper and sound better!!!

Any recommendations?

There are better ways out there.

But if this so you don't need a new loom then all the jetronics does is control the ignition.

You'll need a different fuel pump too.

Yes it will run better on the proper Mi management BUT, if its running OK and you are happy enough then leave it alone for now. Go enjoy some trackdays with it, thats what you have bought it for after all. There are too many folks guilty of trackday cars turning into never ending projects that never actually see a track.

Nothing it will be a cheaper and better for me. You can buy full sets of carbs for cheap, I will keep my eye out, can't help but love the look of carbs aswel!

I'm doing a track day tomorrow, can't wait! Needs it's brAkes bleeding tomorrow morning before I go then am ready! Going evo hunting ;)

I fitted the cage today, it's not welded in yet bUt it is in place. That will be Sundays job. It doesn't move at all it's solid so I should be fine! Need to fit my compomotives and new sump/oil pump.

Track day cars are constant projects, no point being scare in using it in case something will break..... Hence why I bought a cheap 205 to start off!

Who knows what monster it may become In a couple of years!
